Biography

Prof. Bánáti has University degrees in food science and technology, law, PhD in agriculture science and has two decades of postgraduate professional experience in science, of which 10 years’ gained at a high management level as Director General of the Central Food Research Institute, Hungary and being the Chair of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). 

 

She is honorary professor at the Szent István University and the University of Szeged, Hungary and chair of the Department of Food Regulatory Sciences and Consumer Studies of the Corvinus University of Budapest and the Department of Food Sciences of the Szent István University Gödöllő, affiliated to the CFRI.

Her research activities focus on food safety, food policy, consumer sciences and agri-food ethics.

Prof. Bánáti plays an active role in formulating national and international food policy.  She is a member and representative of several international (e.g. EFSA, Codex; OECD, ILSI, EGE) and Hungarian scientific committees, boards and organisations, chairperson at numerous international conferences. She is largely involved in international EU supported research projects (FP6, FP7) focusing on food safety, novel technologies and consumer science.

Prof. Bánáti is author of several articles on food safety, food policy, food ethics, consumer science and risk management.
