Biography

Gerrit Jan Schaeffer (1966) is the Director of the Energy Group at VITO (the Flemish Institute of Technological Research). He got his education in Business Studies, Applied Physics  and Philosophy of Science and Technology at the University of Twente in The Netherlands. Between 1994 until the end of 2006 he worked at the Energy Research Center of the Netherlands (ECN). In 1998 he received his PhD. in Science and Technology Studies with a study on the history of Fuel Cells. As a senior researcher at ECN Policy Studies he specialised in Renewable Energy Policy (with special focus on Green Certificate Systems), Learning Curves and Energy Forecasting Models. As a Research Manager he led teams on Energy Transition and Innovation, Integrated Sustainable Building Concepts and Intelligent Energy Networks. Since 2007 he works at VITO.
